As we all know things change, whether you are rock climbin, hiking, Hunting, Fishing or Camping or broken down out in the boonies. This is one of those products that is "better to have it, and not need it" than to "need it and not have it".
This is a MUST HAVE item, that everyone should have at home, in the car, boat, RV and OTV. These items cost so little, and can save so much it doesn't make sense not to stock up and BE PREPARED!

Well, don't think this is a survival kit. It ain't. What we have here is a match safe/case with a decent whistle (a good thing). The mirror is too small, and the flint is inadequate. The compass is OK as long as you understand it's hardly for orienteering.
However, it goes around your neck, is lightweight, and it's something you won't feel silly carrying on a run along that well traveled trail you know so well.
There are several versions of this thing, and this is likely the least expensive. Maybe buy a bunch for a Scout troop?
Stock it with some high quality matches (and a striker), carry a Swiss army knife and a tiny 1st aid kit, and you're fine if you're not really going in the wilderness
