Best Trail Camera yet January 25, 2010 John E. Bondi (Bridgeton NJ) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a life long big game hunter. At age 63 I've tryed a lot of products attempting to get an edge on the game I'm hunting.
I started trying to figure game movement tying a pice of thread across a trail. That told me if the trail was being used and the broken end of the thread indicated the direction of travel. Then came a string timer that told me when the game was using the trail.
Since then my trail cameras evolved from 35 mm cameras activated by solinoids to the programable cameras of today. I have used several brands of trail cameras and have several Bushnells.
The trophy by Bushnell is the latest that I have added to my collection. This little camera is the best yet. The small size makes it esaier to camoflage from the view of would be thieves. The battery life is great. It will take thousands of photos on a single set of batteries. The infared flash has the longest range that I have seen. The setup, battery and SD card access make it fast and easy to use in the field. Using it on 10 second video mode allows me not only to see what and when an animal was there but also what direction it came from. That's really useful information on stand placement along a trial for those late arrivind bucks. It also caught a couple of trespassers sneaking on and off posted property.
I would like to see the software improved to allow a password for setup and use. This devise has no theft deterant mounting and I believe that should be incorperated in future models.
The normal price is $199.00 for the model without a viewer screen. I don't like to fool around near a hunting area long enough to review the SD card. I found mine on Amazon for $165.00. I willd be using more of this model next season, Lord Willing.
outstanding game camera January 27, 2010 Ronald Ault (Southern Maryland) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have used this camera for almost sixty days- the weather has been everything...snow, rain, windy and and an unusually January warm spell. Camera is weather proof. Works as advertised and has an outstanding detection range...anything within the camera's viewing range is also within its detection range...foxes, racoons, wild turkeys, deer and humans..the trigger times is fast so you rarely get an empty picture...the night time black and white IR pictures aren't great but they are good. The compact size makes this camera a plus and the battery life is just the best out there...setup was pretty easy so what is there left to gripe about? It has worked flawless and has taken a great deal of pictures on an active game trail- This is my third game cam and it is the best and the only one suited for a game trail- I have another brand on my feeder because the trigger time is a lot slower than the Trophy cam.
Bushnell Trophy Cam with Text LCD January 23, 2010 Michael J. Stelske (Eagle, WI USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was very sceptical to purchase the Bushnell Trophy Cam with Text LCD mainly from many of the negative reviews I read. So far I been using it for over a month flawlessly. It's not in the same category as the Recon Cams, but neither is the price. Wind moving objects and birds flying through will trigger the shutter with only the scenery in the picture. Also fast moving objects will be blurry at night, but I believe that's the same with most other trail cams. I'd rather have a lot of pictures, I can always delete the ones not to my liking, besides some scenery shots are great. I use "two" 2GB SanDisk memory cards, so I can swap them when removing one. I couldn't see paying $10 more for the small view screen for my use. 2GB is the largest SD card you can use in this Cam. I bought those on Amazon for a great price too. I live in Wisconsin so the temp here in the winter is from below zero to just above freezing and other than a little frost obstructing the lense no problem. If possible face the lense south in cold weather and this will help alieviate the above problem. I will buy a few more of these and do give the OK for friends to buy.
Best camera for you dollar May 10, 2010 Michael R. Gillespie (Up State South Carolina) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We started off with five cameras from another vender that uses the same format and loved them , Knowing this to be the same camera with up dates and two year warranty it was a no brainer. We purchased three of these and love them, long battery life and will work in cold weather. We use them over feeders and take 500-900 plus pictures per week per camera with no problems... You dont know what you are missing until you use one, can't hunt with out them. Will buy more when funds are available
Not much luck at first but it got better. November 8, 2009 Keith White (Lincoln, Ne) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I got mine a week ago and haven't had much luck with it. I just put in my third set of lithium batteries. When I turn it on, it just shoots pictures or videos until the card is full which uses up the batteries. The 2 gb card holds 2500 photos at 3 mp and 57 ten second video clips BTW. I put it in a dark room with nothing moving and it does the same thing so I know it's not from the wind blowing. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it is malfunctioning right out of the box. If I can't get it to work right I think I'll send the piece of junk back for a refund.
UPDATE: I returned the camera to Bushnell for repair. They sent me a new camera and I've used it for the past 8 months with no problems. I have several cameras and this one takes the best pictures and videos day and night of all of them. I also purchased an external plug and attached a 6 volt dry cell battery to it which I have not had to recharge for 6 months.
I guess it might be hit or miss when you buy one of these cameras, but the customer service and repair are top of the line.
A comment left here said to make sure to use SanDisk brand SD cards. This is true. Other cards are hit or miss as to whether they will work with this camera. Make sure you format your cards in the camera every once in a while too. I have 2 cards and switch one for the other and review the photos on my computer. I've shot pics of about everything but wolves, bears and bigfoot with it.
