I've been "on" the Buff bandwagon for almost 10 years. Seriously, I have some of the original Survivor Buffs from ebay autions. I think I own over 20 of them between my bags, vehicles, and sock drawer. Early scare with skin cancer started me wearing protection...added warmth in winter, sun protection, I am a big believer.
A friend bought this for turkey hunting...I knew I had to try it. The Army has picked up it's useage from the lands where we now fight for world stability...and I can see why. Now that I have one, I can see why the design is so ingenious.
It's really what you want it to be. Warming, cooling, dust shield, protection, emergency compression wrap, breaks up your outline, TOTALLY changes your head shape, has enough length that it won't come off during activities....it's really just awesome.
I carry it now every day in my pack. Yes, I still have a buff in there too...but the Shemagh is handy if I need it and want it...and I find myself using it more and more in the last months since I bought it.
Shemagh May 28, 2010 Richard A. Munoz 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great product! I'm in the military and I bought this to wrap around my neck during operations outdoors. Now I'm also using it to keep the sun off my neck during yard work and wrapping it around my head while swatting down hornets nest. Great quality and generous size. Shipped quickly and was properly packaged. I will buy more from this company in the future.
Great product! July 8, 2010 J. Moran (Texas) As others have stated, WASH the thing before putting it on. I had to throw it in the washing machine twice to get the thing to rinse clear and not green. Outside of that it's a pretty good shemagh. The company doesn't give the size of it but it's 40x40 inches (not the biggest one on the market). I have a huge head, as in I go to hat stores and they have to special order, and this product covers my head fine. Overall, great product!
nice, but... November 7, 2009 ERICE 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
These shemaghs are great and an absolute steal, but some friendly advice:
before you use, soak w/warm H20 in a bucket or something that you don't care about stains, for 20 mins, wring out, repeat 3x. Whatever dye process they use is not very color fast, but that's OK as I bought the OD and it has now faded from a very dark (nearly black) green to a lighter, more versatile color. Similar to Army ACUs. In fact the shemagh goes great with my ACUs, and almost looks Army issue. I even machine washed one of mine in a delicate garment bag (with my ACUs) and now it feels like it's cashmere it's so soft.
If you don't follow my advice, you will end up with green smudges on your face or neck where the fabric rubs. Have fun cleaning them off.
I just got back from a deer hunting trip where I used the soft shemagh and loved it. I didn't do the whole jihadi wrap thing, just a scarf and half-mask kind of deal, but it was warm, soft, and comfortable. I also had a doe stare at me from about 10 yards away and not realize I was a human, between my Realtree cammies, skullie, and the shemagh.
